Organic Village

Organic Village Project

Bhoomi Sustainable Development Society (BSDS) has been spearheading the Organic Village Project for the past seven years, with generous financial support from the Department of Agriculture, Government of Karnataka. Recognizing the success achieved during the initial phases, the Government of Karnataka has further extended its support, allowing us to expand the project’s reach to four blocks across three districts: Chikmagalur, Hassan, and Bangalore Rural. Additionally, the project has been extended to cover Bangalore Urban, Ramnagara, Davangere, and Madikeri districts.

The primary objective of the Organic Village Project is to promote and implement organic farming practices within rural communities. BSDS aims to convert 100 hectares of farmland in each block into organic farming methods within a span of three years. This conversion process involves transitioning from conventional agricultural practices to sustainable and environmentally friendly organic farming techniques.

Key Components of the Project:

Demonstration Farms: BSDS collaborates closely with local farmers to establish viable demonstrations of organic farming practices. These demonstration farms serve as learning centers where farmers can observe and learn about the benefits and methodologies of organic agriculture.

Community Involvement: The success of the project hinges upon active participation from the farming community. BSDS actively engages with farmers, encouraging their involvement in the adoption and implementation of organic farming practices. Through workshops, training sessions, and field demonstrations, farmers are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to embrace organic agriculture.

Sustainable Agriculture: By transitioning to organic farming methods, farmers not only improve the quality of their produce but also contribute to the long-term sustainability of their land and surrounding ecosystems. Organic farming practices promote soil health, biodiversity, and water conservation, thereby fostering resilient agricultural systems.

Capacity Building: BSDS invests in the capacity building of local farmers, extension workers, and agricultural practitioners. Training programs and workshops are conducted to disseminate knowledge on organic farming techniques, pest management, composting, and other relevant topics.

Environmental Impact: The adoption of organic farming practices has significant environmental benefits, including reduced chemical inputs, lower carbon emissions, and improved soil fertility. By promoting organic agriculture, BSDS contributes to mitigating the adverse effects of conventional farming on the environment.

Through the Organic Village Project, BSDS is committed to promoting sustainable agriculture, enhancing rural livelihoods, and fostering environmental stewardship within rural communities. By empowering farmers to embrace organic farming practices, we envision a future where agriculture coexists harmoniously with nature, ensuring food security, environmental conservation, and economic prosperity for generations to come.
